You book sounds very interesting.
However, the text on this website is VERY DIFFICULT to read. Not enough contrast between the text and the background.
What about the source code? can’t locate it, if any, guess it’s not!
I am a few chapters in and I felt I should comment. First of all, the typos are numerous. And there are some examples of bad grammar. I don’t think this book was properly checked. Ch2 is especially bad. NOw, I understand books have typos and errors, but this is more than just occasional. There are also some sections that simply get bogged down in desciption when a more succinct clarity is called for. I gather the authors have not done this before?
Also, what’s with the printed source code, would it have killed you to indent?
The content so far is ok to good, and a book like this was screaming out to be written. But I also feel really let down - not the first time for a technical book - but always disheartening.
We are supposed to be highly skilled, professional, technical people - why we can’t get our writing and books in order just makes me wonder sometimes. I don’t blame the authors as much as the editors fort letting this get out before it was checked thoroughly. I hope my message gets to those who make these decisions, as I’m afraid it is just not good enough.
But that’s not all I’m afraid, the website looks terrible in firefox, much of it does not render properly, and there are a number of broken links. I still have no idea where the bleeding source code is!
Disappointed, but I hope after dealing with the annoyances the book will prove useful, but I feel I won’t have the patience to pick it up again after reading it once.
Publishers and writers of technical books need and must do better than this. Typos are acceptable (to a point) in blogs, forums, etc, but in an expensive book they, and their horrible cousins poor grammar and verbosity, are intolerable.
